Clouds Clouds - convection xxx
Convection base roughly at the same level as the base of low cloud, with convection depth up to 2 km = a nice thermal day.
The convection base is close to the cloud base height and often corresponds to the base of low cumulus cloud.
Depth: The convection layer is typically 1–3 km deep, which usually means fair-weather cumulus without significant storm development.
What it means for flying: A typical thermal day with cumulus clouds, good readability of thermals, and often some of the best conditions for cross-country flying.
(The values are approximate and depend on the season, humidity, temperature, and other factors.)
